Dr. Viar is a graduate of Capella University and earned his Ph.D. in Post-Secondary Adult Education and Training, 2007. He has completed post-doctoral research at Harvard University, Vanderbilt University, MIT, University of Oklahoma, and Norwich University and is a Certified Postsecondary Instructor. He earned his MBA in 2001. Dr. Viar is a full-time Professor, teaching courses in Business, Education, Management and Marketing.
Dr. Viar is an innovative teacher, lifelong learner, and author with a passion and devotion to education and learning. He has been a college instructor for 19+ years, has over 20 years of professional marketing and business experience in the areas of banking and marketing management and currently serves as President for the Association for Non-Traditional Students in Higher Education, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose purpose is to provide support and scholarships to non-traditional students.
He is also a published author whose works have been published in academic journals and publications. Dr. Viar’s book, The Nontraditional Learner’s Guide to Success: Creating an Informal Support Network, focuses on the characteristics of the nontraditional learner and how they can identify and capitalize on the support they receive from their informal support network. As a lifelong learner, Dr. Viar believes that it’s never too late to learn or go back to college and is currently working on a Master’s Degree in U.S. History at Norwich University. Dr. Viar and his wife have six children and two grandsons and two granddaughters. One of Dr. Viar's passions is U.S. History. He collects Civil War and WWII Memorabilia and enjoys visiting historical monuments, parks and museums.
